Species

Frames are available in dozens of species including FSC materials and most are available in plain, quarter and rift sawn wood. The primary limitations are "knotty" or "rustic" species (they have holes in them!) or those too soft and porous. Most traditional domestic and exotic hardwoods are acceptable. We've made frames in over 100 species. Contact us if you have any questions or concerns about what species do or don't meet the standard.

Hardware Requirements

Fire-rated openings require acceptable components to create the opening unit - thats the door, the frame and the hardware. The wide world of hardware keeps expanding and innovating. Some of that hardware has not been tested and some requires such a dramatic modification to the door or frame to render them unfit for a fire-rated opening. Below are some helpful guidelines, but always contact us to be sure. We're also always testing and researching how we can incorporate the newest hardware into approvable frame designs.

Approved Hardware

The following hardware types are approved on all fire-rated frames:

  • Traditional Hinges
  • Traditional Strikes & Deadbolts
  • Electric Hinges
  • Silencers
  • Lightswitches
  • More (inquire)

Limited or Excluded Hardware

The following hardware types have special stipulations to use or may be incompatible in some cases. Please contact us for clarification on any of the below.

  • Continuous Hinge
  • Double-acting Hinges
  • Pivots
  • Concealed Hardware
  • Electrified Hardware (strike, power transfer, raceways)
